REPAIR GUIDE

Step by step

  1. 1
    Support the door
Open it 90 degrees and wedge a book under the latch side so it cannot drop while you work.
  2. 2
    Tighten every screw
Start with the top hinge. If a screw just spins, it has lost its grip.
  3. 3
    Replace the long one
Swap the center screw in the top hinge for a 75 mm wood screw that reaches the framing. Drive it until the hinge sits flush.
  4. 4
    Check the gap
The latch side should now meet the strike. Close it a few times. If it still rubs, add a thin cardboard shim behind the hinge.
